This year the FSA has made the FAFSA available earlier and now requires a copy of the 2016 Taxes-which your parents have already completed!  Important things to remember:

1. Don't wait to start, the process can be very complicated-the more time you have for corrections the better.

2. The earlier your financial aid application is complete the sooner you may hear from your colleges about your award.

3. Using the IRS data retrieval tool saves you time verifying your parents income.

4. If you need help, stop by the college center.

Jefferson was recently approved as a raise.me high school partner to help encourage students to begin planning and preparing for college now!  Through the Raise.me website students are able to earn micro-scholarships (free money) to attend partner schools just for inputting grades, activities and community service, and honors and awards.

The website has over 130 partner colleges and each college determines what they award scholarships and how much each activity is worth.  For example, a student may earn a $20 scholarship to one university for 10 hours of volunteer work or earning an A in a class, while another university awards $15.

All Scholarships amounts are specific to each college the student lists/selects and carry over from year to year.  Students cannot transfer scholarships or collect them unless they apply to the partner college, are admitted and decide to attend the specific college.

Some of the partner colleges include:

Loyola Marymount University

University of Arizona

Michigan State University

Notre Dame University

Agnes & Scott College

Oberlin College

Cal Lutheran

Azusa Pacific University

Menlo College
